Volunteering At HatchSpace

Volunteers play an essential role in helping nonprofits like HatchSpace fulfill our mission. We strive to ensure that our volunteer opportunities are personally rewarding while filling key gaps in organization activities.

To be a HatchSpace Volunteer you must be willing to commit to at least one 3 hour shift each week. After three months of consistent service, stewards and mentors are eligible for 24/7 access privileges.

Your first responsibility as a HatchSpace volunteer is to be available to the general public to give tours and answer questions, to be present so that we can allow guests access to the space (members have keycards they use to get into the building but we will need to let visitors in), keeping the place clean and functional for our members. Volunteers are welcome to work on personal projects as long as first responsibilities as a volunteer are upheld.

We have three ways you can be a volunteer at HatchSpace, depending on your experience, skills and interest.


Circulate throughout the space regularly. Welcome visitors and members, ensure everyone signs in, give tours, explain how things work at HatchSpace and answer questions, help new members and guests get oriented to the space. Direct inquiries to the right members of the HatchSpace team. Take pictures and send to Hatch or tag us on social media!

Circulate throughout the shops regularly. Ensure walk-ways are clear of clutter, tools are clean and ready for use. Check in with members who are in the shops and verify that they have the appropriate clearance for the tools they are using. Complete incident reports when needed, provide regular feedback to operations team. Take pictures and send to Hatch!

Circulate throughout the shops regularly during Open Shop hours. Keep familiar with member projects and an eye on safe operation of machines. Be available to members to trouble-shoot tool and process questions. Complete incident reports when needed, provide regular feedback to the operations team.

Ready to sign up?

Visit our membership page and register for the volunteer rate. A member of staff will reach out to discuss which of the opportunities is the best fit for your skills and interests. If we find a good fit, your next steps will be:
  1. Participate in a new member/volunteer orientation
  2. Sign your Volunteer Agreement with HatchSpace
  3. Identify and sign up for a shift that fits your schedule
  4. Show up for your first shift!
