Our core team of staff is supported by part-time instructors, a handful of dedicated volunteers, and dynamic leadership that includes our Board of Directors and a National Advisory Board.

Meet Our Team

  • Tom Bodett

    CO-FOUNDER, BOARD PRESIDENT

    A lifelong carpenter and woodworker in addition to his successful 40 year career in publishing and broadcasting, Tom Bodett devotes himself to serving the rural communities he has lived, and has always lived. With half of his adult life spent in Alaska and the other half in Vermont, Bodett has lived to appreciate the beauty and the bounty of our natural landscape and the indomitable spirit of the communities that occupy it. Through hands-on effort and philanthropy, Tom and his wife Rita, work to leave these places better than they found them, and have learned when to leave well enough alone.

  • Shelton Walker

    EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

    Shelton has spent two decades igniting and supporting change through the arts. Before joining HatchSpace, she served as a leader for arts-focused colleges and universities, as well as worked for a number of museums and cultural institutions. She loves creating new possibilities for extraordinary organizations like HatchSpace. Learn more about Shelton here.

  • Jesse Pompei, Education Coordinator

    Jesse Pompei

    DIRECTOR OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
    Jesse has been an educator for twenty years, and a woodworking enthusiast for even longer. Jesse’s garage is her woodworking studio, although at times it is overrun with lawnmowers and bicycles. She has been building and making furniture since 1993. To have those two paths converge at her new role at HatchSpace is a dream come true.

  • Rowan Norlander-McCarty

    DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

    Rowan is a cabinetmaker driven by curiosity and the pursuit of quality. He believes that in melding the industrial, applied, and fine arts we all have the opportunity to live in a more harmonious, sustainable world. A lover of trees from seed to stump, when not in the shop you’ll find him in the forest or the garden.

  • Joe LaRose

    SHOP ASSISTANT

    Joe is a passionate designer/ fabricator/educator who enjoys transforming concepts into reality. Past work includes miniature models, bicycle frame building, interactive museum exhibits, theatrical latex masks, electro/mechanical gadgets and geodesic domes. Joe loves to share his knowledge and enjoys collaborating with others to help bring dreams to life.

  • Sarah Dublin

    BOOKKEEPER

    Sarah is our bookkeeper. She loves to plan and organize and has put these trait to good use in her bookkeeping practice. She lives in Walpole with her husband and two cats and enjoys gardening, all kinds of puzzles and any sport that takes her outdoors. She has a passion to work with local non-profits and values the relationships, sense of community, and sparks of creativity they have brought to her life.

  • Jed Blume

    DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

    Jed has been supporting HatchSpace as a development consultant since 2018. After completing a Master’s Degree through SIT Graduate Institute in 2012, Jed began partnering with organizations as a freelance consultant to support community-based programs, social services, education, environmentalism, and the arts. As of 2023 he has raised over $5.5M for more than 20 organizations, primarily in southern Vermont. Learn more about Jed at GreenMountainGrants.com.

  • Phil Feidelseit

    DIRECTOR, VICE PRESIDENT

    Phil earned a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Northwestern University and worked as a chemist at the Uniroyal, Inc. Research Center followed by a teaching career at Windham College and Dartmouth College. Phil later launched NEW ENGLAND LABORATORIES under whose auspices he performed specialized chemical analysis and wrote computer applications for the nuclear power industry. He has been a member and served in leadership positions with the Brattleboro Outing Club for decades, was a founding member of Brattleboro RacquetSports, Inc., and has served as the president of the board of directors of Brattleboro RacquetSports, Inc. since 2000. He has absolutely no cabinetry skills but does appreciate fine woodwork and remains active as a decent athlete.

  • Monica Hastings

    DIRECTOR, SECRETARY

  • Sage Ruth

    DIRECTOR, TREASURER

    Sage has worked in nonprofit finance and operations since 2008 in a variety of small and large organizations, including as director of operations at the Tobin Project, at the Boston Foundation helping the foundation create its next five-year strategic plan, and as senior vice president of finance & operations at uAspire. Currently, she manages the nonprofit Structural Integrity, which she co-founded in order to help other nonprofits build sustainable finance and operations systems as they seek to maximize their effectiveness. Sage has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in social studies from Wesleyan University. She grew up in central Vermont, and loves to build and fix things.

  • Mark Tarmy

    DIRECTOR

    Owner of Vermont Plank Flooring, Manufacturing high-end solid and Engineered flooring shipping nationwide and overseas. Has been in the wood industry for over forty five years. Active Nordic ski coach, downhill skier, and cyclist. Married and father of five children, and regularly beats Phil (board member) at tennis.

    Robert Webber has been a member of the HatchSpace Board since 2024. He is Director at CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, with a focus on Higher Education. Robert lives with his wife and two children in South Royalton, VT.
