Rosie’s Girls Will Inspire Young Carpenters

In a new partnership, Vermont Works for Women will host their “Rosie’s Girls BUILD” camp for five weeks this summer at HatchSpace in Brattleboro.

Rosie’s Girls® is a trades, STEM, and career exploration summer camp and afterschool program for middle school girls*. Through hands-on learning and a research-based social/emotional curriculum called Power Skills, Rosie’s Girls helps youth break down gender stereotypes, develop self-confidence, build connections, and dream big about their futures.

RG BUILD focuses on basic carpentry skill-building. Campers work with hammers, screw drivers, measuring tools, hand saws, chop saws, jig saws, and power drills. They can also learn to use orbital sanders, hand sanders, paintbrushes, wood burners and other hand tools used to finish or decorate their projects.

Projects are designed to teach campers safe tool use, gain experience with different types and dimensions of lumber, and see projects through to successful completion. Examples include picture frames, toolboxes, foot stools, and campers’ own designs.

HatchSpace is honored to be bringing this camp to the Brattleboro region for the first time, and will be looking for creative and vibrant ways to continue to expand programming for women and girls in the years ahead.
