Unique Summer Youth Camps Continue to Grow at HatchSpace

This July and August, we’re continuing our unique partnerships with area nonprofits to offer truly innovative Summer Youth Camps in the heart of downtown Brattleboro. Camps include two weeks of Rosie’s Girls, a Trades and STEM exploration camp for middle school girls and gender expansive youth that is offered with partnering organization, Vermont Works for Women, as well as two weeks of Build Your Own Skateboard Camp, a unique hands-on design and build morning camp followed by an afternoon of real skating which is offered in partnership with First Proof Press and the Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro

In its second year at HatchSpace, Rosie’s Girls camps have actually been offered since 2000 by partnering organization, Vermont Works for Women. The camp aims to encourage girls and gender-expansive youth to explore non-traditional fields for their gender, such as STEM and the skilled trades, in a safe, fun, and empowering environment. Campers gain hands-on experience in fields like construction and welding, use power tools, and learn life skills to support their growth and career journeys.

This summer, Rosie’s Girls at HatchSpace will run for two weeks – July 22-26 and August 5-9. There are still spots available in both sessions of Rosie’s Girls, and there is 100% scholarship support available thanks to a generous grant from the Agnes M. Lindsay Charitable Trust. Build Your Own Skateboard Camp is also in its second year at HatchSpace, and is a remarkable collaboration between several Brattleboro based nonprofits, each bringing unique expertise and oversight to the equation that results in a one-of-kind camp experience for teens. In the morning, participants learn the art and skill of building their very own skateboard at HatchSpace’s community workshop and design custom artwork for their boards at First Proof Press, which is just downstairs from HatchSpace. In the afternoon, participants can enjoy all forms skating at the Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro. HatchSpace has longstanding partnerships with both the Boys & Girls Club - where HatchSpace previously assisted in rebuilding elements of the unique indoor skatepark at the club - as well as with First Proof Press, with whom HatchSpace has collaborated to offer specialized courses in woodblock printmaking in the past. The Boys & Girls Club has taken the camp collaborations one step further, and is even offering a photography track with Insight-Photography in town.

This summer, Build Your Own Skateboard Camp at HatchSpace will run for two weeks - July 15-19 and July 29 - Aug 2. There are still spots available in both sessions of Build Your Own Skateboard Camp. Learn more about Build Your Own Skateboard Camp here
