Meet Our New Executive Director, Shelton Walker
A new chapter in the HatchSpace story begins!
We are excited to share Shelton Walker joined our growing organization as Executive Director this past May. She’s already hit the ground running, diving into all of the core programs at HatchSpace, from our classes and members program, to our community build projects, and working to accelerate several key priorities from workforce development programs like our upcoming Trailblazers Trades Training Program, to enhancing our support for our members.
More About Shelton:
Shelton joins HatchSpace from Bennington College, where she has served as Chief of Staff and Vice President for Strategic Initiatives since 2021. She is an artist, educator, and leader with a service-oriented and entrepreneurial spirit and two decades of experience in arts-focused nonprofit and educational institutions from Bennington College and Glasgow School of Art, to Monserrat College of Art & Design. She has co-led community-driven strategic planning processes, stewarded partnerships, and overseen critical operational functions including creative centers, museum and gallery spaces, buildings and grounds divisions, human resources, information technology, and marketing and communications, as well as youth and adult arts education programs.
Shelton has also held roles as a faculty member, educator, advocate, and administrator at institutions including Robert Miller Gallery, Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, the Guggenheim Museum, Mercy Corps, New York Public Interest Research Group, University of the Arts, and Pratt Institute. As an interdisciplinary artist, she has exhibited internationally in Scotland, Berlin, New York and Vermont, and was an Artist-in-Residence at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art. She holds an MFA from Glasgow School of Art and a BFA from Pratt Institute. She is originally from Virginia, but is now loving life in Vermont with her husband, Damien McCaffery.
