Affordable Joiner's Bench

7 Apr 2019 11:51 AM | Tom Bodett (Administrator)

Tom has completed the modified joiner's bench he's been working on since we were all much younger.   He used surplus glu-lam beam ends donated by Foard Panel, Inc, leftover milled sugar maple from a large slab he cut up for other purposes, some red oak odds and ends, and two inexpensive vices.  The bench will be able to accommodate heavier work than other benches in the shop.  As shown above - two cherry slabs can be mounted in the opposing vices for shaping.

Total costs for the bench were under $300.  A bench of this type would generally sell for five times that amount.  Tom is considering offering a workshop on building affordable workbenches.   Let us know if this is something you might be interested in.
