No woodworking experience required.

Kumiko is the Japanese technique of assembling wooden pieces to form patterns, without the use of nails or glue. The patterns range from very simple to very intricate.  Kumiko panels can be used decoratively, to make lamps or screens and more.

In this class, we will learn the basics of Kumiko as we build one or more of the traditional patterns.  We will use hand tools, such as chisels and hand planes, and specialized jigs that make it easy to precisely cut the pieces with the angles and length needed for the pattern. Students will take home a sample pattern.
