Intermediate Lathe Techniques:

Bowls and Platters

In this class we will review the fundamentals of turning bowls and plates. The specific focus will be on turning a shallow bowl, which allows the practitioner to learn all of the techniques necessary to launch into a very wide variety of face-turning applications with minimal specialized tools. We will spend some initial time discussing design considerations and examining the workings of lathe chucks and face plates. The primary tools will be bowl gouges. Materials and tools will be provided.

Safety is an overarching objective, so please consider wearing short-sleeved shirts or sleeves that can be rolled up, and keep long hair up when possible. Class size is limited to allow each person the opportunity to focus on their work and minimize distractions while providing for group support and discussion.
