Hand Finishing to Perfection

Hatchspace co-founder Tom Bodett will share his techniques for producing the perfect surface for hand-finished furniture and accessories. The 3 hour class will cover the use of steel card scrapers and finish abrasives to create a glass smooth surface ready for any hand-rubbed finish.  Learn how to achieve the look and feel of museum quality wood surfaces with a few simple tools.

The card scraper is an often overlooked, simple, and inexpensive tool which can produce consistent results with no dust and little fuss. Learn when and how to use it, and how to keep it sharp. Each participant will take a black cherry board from square-milled to finish-ready on all six surfaces using handplanes, card scrapers, sandpaper, and abrasive pads. Take the pride in your projects to the next level! Everyone will take home a card scraper to own. Materials included.

Some woodworking experience necessary, this class is intermediate level.

Cost $55
