Rosie’s Girls at HatchSpace brings an immersive, hands-on summer camp experience in carpentry to Southern Vermont.
During one week summer day camps, Rosie’s Girls will explore carpentry basics - using hand and power tools to complete exciting projects.
Rosie’s Girls welcomes into the program anyone entering grades six through eight who identifies as a girl regardless of assignment at birth. BUILD camps welcome youth who are non-binary or gender expansive and comfortable in a girl-centered space.
Rosie’s Girls is a trades, STEM, and career exploration summer camp and after school program for middle school girls. Through hands-on learning and a research-based social/emotional curriculum called Power Skills, Rosie’s Girls helps youth break down gender stereotypes, develop self-confidence, build connections, and dream big about their futures.
The BUILD Camp
RG BUILD focuses on basic carpentry skill-building.
Tools: Campers work with hammers, screw drivers, measuring tools, hand saws, chop saws, jig saws, and power drills. They can also learn to use orbital sanders, hand sanders, paintbrushes, wood burners and other hand tools used to finish or decorate their projects.
Projects: Projects are designed to teach campers safe tool use, gain experience with different types and dimensions of lumber, and see projects through to successful completion. Examples include picture frames, toolboxes, foot stools, and campers’ own designs.
Materials: VWW provides a materials list and recommends seeking local donations.
